3-Month internship with a team of 5

Play The Meca is a Serious Game made for Decathlon on Android Platform.

The aim was to lead the future co-workers of the Eureka Project during their professional training. Eureka being the new automated warehouse of the continental supply center of Rouvignies, the old and new employees need to learn the new technical gestures of their job.

What I Did

This internship was done at the end of my second year in Game Design Bachelor, just after "Songes" which was my first video game project, so my programming skills were very limited.

In 3 months I was able to learn a lot since although my main role was Gameplay programmer, I worked the last month as Network Programmer and Data Programmer.

What I Learnt

Autonomy

With 5 other students, we were completely free during this internship because although we had a commendatory, we were in a company that knew nothing about video games. So we learned by ourselves knowing that we had only done a Zelda-Like project for 6 months.

I learned by myself the skills that the team was lacking such as Network or Data management.

Network

One of our commendatory's wishes was to have a ranking system and the possibility to employees to create custom levels and share them with other employees.

So I learned how to create a client-server relationship to get the information out there.

Data

The use of SQL was also one of the pillars of this internship, because although database management was one of the things I learned in my computer science degree, I had never applied it to a video game.

So during this internship, I stored data such as the players' rankings but also the levels they had created to make them accessible to anyone who wanted to get it.
